Here's who has the most Player of the Game honors through April

May 2nd, 2024

MLB launched the Player of the Game initiative this season, allowing fans and MLB to vote on the top players from each respective game.

For those not familiar, fans with an MLB account can vote online for the best players in each game and make their voices heard this season. You can find more information about voting here.

As you’d imagine, the top of the leaderboard features some of baseball’s best players who have put together some of the most impressive individual games this season.

Here’s a look at early standouts who have taken home Player of the Game honors at least four times and some of their notable games.

All numbers are through the end of April's games.

Juan Soto, OF (NYY)
7 times
It’s no surprise that Soto has taken home the most POTG honors. He’s been nothing short of electric in his first season with the Yankees. Perhaps his best performance came on April 17 in Toronto, when Soto had two hits, two walks and a home run that notched his 500th career RBI.

Shohei Ohtani, DH (LAD)
4 times
While his impact won’t be felt on the mound this season, Ohtani has been incredible at the plate in his first season with the Dodgers. Ohtani had a dominant game on April 8 in Minnesota, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles.

Mookie Betts, SS (LAD)
4 times
Betts is off to one of the best starts of his career all while transitioning into a full-time shortstop for the first time. One of Betts’ best games so far came on April 16 against the Nationals, when he recorded the third five-hit game of his career, doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Shota Imanaga, LHP (CHC)
4 times
One of the best storylines in the early going, Imanaga is off to a 4-0 start with a 0.98 ERA. Imanaga’s best performance was his first in the Majors, when the left-hander tossed six scoreless innings, struck out nine Rockies hitters and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Aaron Judge, OF (NYY)
4 times
The Yankees star is not off to his best start but Judge has produced several big performances lately. On April 28 in Milwaukee, Judge shared POTG honors with Anthony Volpe when the slugger recorded his first three-hit game of the season and crushed a 441-foot home run in a 15-5 Yankees win.

Bobby Witt Jr., SS (OF)
4 times
Witt has continued his development as one of the top young players in baseball this season with four homers, nine stolen bases and 1.8 Wins Above Replacement (FanGraphs). His top game came on April 11 against the Astros, when Witt homered twice, recorded four hits, scored four runs, drove in five runs and stole a base.

José Ramírez, 3B (CLE)
4 times
Cleveland’s star is off to a slow start but Ramírez has had no shortage of huge moments and games. On an April 25 win against the Red Sox, Ramírez hit a grand slam in a 10-pitch at-bat and recorded two more hits for good measure.

Logan Webb, RHP (SF)
4 times
Few pitchers can match Webb’s level of high-quality innings and he’s continued furthering that notion this year. Webb has a 2.98 ERA in seven starts and has gone seven or more innings in four of them. His best outing might have been on April 23 against the Mets, when Webb tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just seven runners to reach.

Kyle Schwarber, OF (PHI)
4 times
The Phillies’ slugging leadoff hitter is doing what he normally does -- hitting home runs (eight) and walking plenty (14.7 percent walk rate). That power was on display on April 17 in Philadelphia against the Rockies, when Schwarber blasted a pair of homers that was the difference in a 7-6 win.

Ranger Suárez, LHP (PHI)
4 times
Suárez was already a quality No. 3 starter on a Phillies team that’s made it to the NLCS in consecutive seasons but he’s having a true breakout season with a 5-0 record, 1.32 ERA and 40 strikeouts in six starts. His best outing was a shutout on April 16 against Colorado, when Suárez allowed seven hits and just one walk and struck out eight hitters.

Bryce Miller, RHP (SEA)
4 times
The second-year Mariners starter has dazzled this season with a 2.04 ERA and 39 strikeouts in six starts. His best game came earlier this week when he and the Braves’ Max Fried carried no-hitters into the seventh inning. Miller struck out 10 hitters and allowed just one run in seven innings.
